DUSTIN JOHNSON LOOKS BACK AT SOME OF HIS BIGGEST MOMENTS IN GOLF AS HE’S ANNOUNCED AS NEW GOLF SAUDI AMBASSADOR
December 5, 2024 – Riyadh, KSA: Two-time tournament champion Dustin Johnson took time out at this week’s PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers to look back across his trophy-laden career, reflecting on many of his biggest moments in the game – including only finding out he had a five-shot lead while walking-up the 18th at Augusta to win The Masters back in 2020.
A winner of Golf Saudi’s flagship men’s event in both 2019 and 2021, DJ teed-up in Riyadh this week at what is now the $5million climax of both the Asian Tour and its International Series.
And after touching down in the Saudi capital, the double Major-winner took the time to reminisce about some of the most unforgettable moments of his career.
Those included his two-Major victories – the 2016 U.S Open and 2020 Masters – plus his first professional title, his 2010 Ryder Cup debut and perfect 5-0-0 at Whistling Straits in 2021, and his move to LIV Golf and winning its inaugural team title in 2022.
As well as competing in Riyadh this week, DJ has also used his latest visit to take a hands-on coaching lesson with young Saudi golfers, after being announced as Golf Saudi’s newest international ambassador.
In his ambassadorial role, Johnson will help further drive the growth of golf within Saudi Arabia, working closely with country’s National Development Teams to deliver year-round lessons and coaching. He will also continue to be a regular at golf events in Saudi Arabia and wear the Golf Saudi brand logo while competing around the world.
Johnson said: “Golf Saudi is doing such a great job of promoting the game of golf and trying to get more people involved, here in Saudi Arabia and around the world. Me now being a Golf Saudi ambassador I’m very proud to be a part of that and I really want to help grow the game in Saudi.
“I won the first ever PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers at Royal Greens back in 2019. They do an amazing job of hosting all events out here - it doesn’t matter what kind of event or sport it is. I've always really enjoyed coming here and Golf Saudi put on an incredible event, which has gotten better every year, which is why I've come back and played every year since the first one.”
Golf Saudi are continuing to grow golf in Saudi Arabia – with this week’s event no exception. All attendees will be able to sign-up for their world-first free-to-learn Go Golf coaching initiative, which provides all those who register with three months of free lessons, followed by a year of free rounds of golf, discounted additional coaching, and discounts on club memberships. There are also a record five Saudi professional golfers competing in the event.
Noah Alireza, CEO of Golf Saudi, said: “We are honored to have Dustin taking on this role, which will be at the heart of our ambition to grow golf in Saudi Arabia and deliver our dream of seeing a Saudi champion in the future.
“Our Saudi pro-golfers – a record five of whom are competing in the PIF Saudi International this week – and our National Development team will be learning year-round and hands-on from one of the very best to ever play the game. Off course, we’ll work with DJ to co-innovate on the future of golf, leaning on his unrivalled expertise and knowledge of the game to get more Saudis playing golf.
“Dustin was our debut PIF Saudi International champion back in 2019 and has been a huge supporter of our goals in golf ever since. We are delighted to strengthen that relationship and look forward to backing DJ as he continues to compete for the biggest titles in golf.”
